Libre Office Guidance

Installing Libre Office

1. Check your computer information

Click on start button

Click on settings button, and then select System. Go to bottom of the list and select About

Find System Type and determine if you have a 32 bit or 64 bit system

2. Download Libre Office Files

Open a browser and go to https://www.libreoffice.org/

On the menu at the top of the page, click on Download and then select Download Libre Office from the list that appears.

The most recent update will be at the top of the page. Underneath the words Chose your Operating System you will see a box which will probably list YOUR operating system. If it does not, use the dropdown button at the right hand side to show a list of systems. Select your system.
The label Windows x86 is a 32 bit system – Windows x86_64 is a 64 bit system.
Note that a Windows x86 download will probably work on a 64 bit computer, but, a Windows x86_64 download will NOT work on a 32 bit computer.

Click on the Download button and wait for the download to finish.

Click the BACK button and then click on the Help for offline use: English (US) line and wait for the download to finish.

Click on the Documentation link at the right hand side, then click on the picture of the book at the top of the page that has the title Getting Started Guide. If you want to buy a getting started book, click on the book picture. Otherwise, scroll down the page and you will find 3 different downloadable versions. It is suggested that you select the "PDF" version to download.

Other very detailed information is available on the “Documentation” page.

3. Install Libre Office

Open the Windows Explorer and find the Downloads folder where you will find the files that you just downloaded.

You should find two .MSI files and one .PDF file.

Double Click on the .MSI file that is NOT the helppack file first to download the program.

Then double click on the “helppack” file to load the offline help information.

Move the .PDF file to a suitable storage folder. Double click to open the file and check out its very detailed information on how to work with Libre Office.

4. Install Java for Libre Office Base

Libre Office Base requires that Java be installed. Go to the following link and select the 64 or 32 bit OFFLINE version that suits your operating system: -

https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

After installing Java, you may need to restart your browser in order to enable Java in your browser.

Learning Libre Office

The .PDF or book Getting Started Guide. certainly contains all the information to do absolutely anything with Libre Office but will probably present a tough challenge to a newcomer.
